Sclerotherapy for Non-Surgical Vein Removal

March 14, 2016 by South Texas Vein Institute

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a safe and proven effective treatment for varicose and spider veins. The procedure involves injecting a solution into the vein, which affects the blood vessel’s lining. Consequently, the vein swells and sticks together, gradually turning into scar tissue that will fade away.

If you are planning to have sclerotherapy, you need to do a few things before the procedure. When you have a consultation with one of our doctors at South Texas Vein Institute in Edinburg, you will learn about the conditions for your particular case.

You should tell the doctor if you are taking any prescription medication, are pregnant or have any allergies. In general, you should avoid certain medications, including dietary supplements for at least 48 to 72 hours before the procedure.

During the procedure, you will be awake. Our doctor will use ultrasound to see the vein. The area to be treated may be cleaned and a local anesthetic applied.

After the procedure, you should not do any aerobic activity, and you will be asked to wear compression stockings for a few days. You may also be requested to avoid hot tubs and baths, as well as whirlpools, for a while, and you should avoid direct sunlight.

You may wonder if you require non-invasive treatment. Varicose veins are caused when the veins in your legs are not able to push the blood back to your heart.

This may cause the blood to pool in the vein, making it large and conspicuous. If you have tried simple things, such as losing weight, getting more exercise, elevating your legs when you can and wearing compression stockings and don’t see any improvement, seeing our doctor may be your best option.

We can help if:

• You are not happy about the appearance of your legs
• You experience pain and cramping
• Sores and ulcers form
• Your blood clots frequently
• The fatty tissue under the skin becomes hard

Non-surgical vein removal with sclerotherapy has a very high success rate, and the risk of complications is very low.

The treatment will improve the appearance of the skin on your legs or other places, and there is no scarring or bruising for most patients.

Sclerotherapy for non-surgical vein removal may be your best option to get smooth, attractive legs again. Contact South Texas Vein Institute today to schedule your consultation.
